Peridot is the most well-known gem variety of olivine, a species name for a series of magnesium-iron rich silicate minerals. Peridot is one of the few gemstones that occur in only one color, an olive green. The intensity and tint of the green, however, depends on how much iron is contained in the crystal structure, so the color of individual peridot gems can vary from yellow- to olive- to brownish-green. The most valued color is a dark olive-green. It is sometimes mistaken for emeralds and other green gems. It is opaque and when polished can be crystal clear.
This gemstone has caught the fancy of humans for thousands of years. Some historians even suspect that at least some of the "emeralds" worn by Cleopatra were actually peridot. It is so ancient that it can be found in Egyptian jewelry from the early 2nd millennium B.C. In ancient Greece it was believed to confer the energy of royalty to the wearer and in England wearing a peridot engraved with the symbol of a torch bearer was believed to bring wealth.
Peridot emits a warm and friendly energy helping one to release the old negative patterns. It is thought to bring the wearer good luck, peace, and success. Its powers include health, protection, and sleep. The advantages of peridot are to attract love and calm anger while also soothing nerves and dispelling negative emotions.
In the Vedic philosophy it is considered one of the planet Mercury's favorite stones and it is a great stone to be carried or worn on Wednesday's.
This stone is known as "the healer's stone". It helps natural health practitioners to cleanse their auras and also neutralizes toxins on all levels. Peridot purifies the subtle bodies and mind. Peridot is said to regulate the cycles of one’s life, be that emotional cycles, life cycles or intellectual cycles. It opens, cleanses and activates the heart and solar plexus chakras.
Peridot is wonderful at helping one to release the old and embrace the new. It can assist one in realizing the detrimental patterns in one’s life and can be the basis of attaining that which is necessary for growth.
